Hemline is an American pop/rock/indie band formed in Denver in 2020

The band’s lineup consists of Anne on lead vocals/bass, Virginia singing backup, Owen and Bobby on guitars and John on drums.

Merging roots of pop, punk, indie and Americana, Hemline’s members are long time staples of Denver’s indie scene.  In the early 2000’s, Anne Bellavia fronted and played bass for The Affairs, earning a Denver Westword Music Award for “Best band to ruin your Atkins diet”.  In 2008 through 2013, Anne played bass/sang with a variety of Denver bands. She also collaborated with local musicians performing at Denver’s hot spot The Hi-Dive at many New Year’s Eve Velvet Underground parties, as well as The Cars and Devo cover nights.

Owen Beard has been playing guitar since he was in the single digits, having been heavily influenced by the Smith’s guitarist Johnny Marr. Before Hemline, Owen played guitar in local Denver bands Broken glass and Rattleteeth.  He currently captivates audiences with his one-man band Blindrunner.  Bobby Genser another seasoned musician, has lent his guitar playing, music writing and vocals to many bands including Acoustic Prostitution, Slackjaw, U.S. Pipe, Dario Rosa and The Ghost Towners. Back up vocalist Virginia Brightman was nominated as female vocalist of the year to the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023.  In the past 15 years, she has been writing and singing harmonies for many Denver bands.  Virginia currently sings with Jack Yoder.  John Call has been causing damage to his hearing since 1988. He has blessed Colorado with his heavy handed drumming in many bands, all while letting it be known that he would have rather been a guitarist, but was just too lazy. John has been a member of Pompous Hairchild, Bunny Ghengis, Baldo Rex, Veronica, Aerosol, Cash America and Blindrunner.
